The Executive Chairman of Kosofe Local Government, Hon. Barrister Moyosore Ogunlewe has pumped a water of courage into the minds of unfortunate victims of sexual violence and urged them to wear their armour of fearlessness by being bold enough to report the callous perpetrators of the heinous crime, the stigmatization, notwithstanding.
Kosofe Local Government boss made this remark during this year commemoration programme to sentizise victims and general public alike on the guides and supports for the survivours of sexual gender based violence.
In a Press release signed and made available to Universal News by the Information officers and the head of the Council’s Public Affairs Unit, Mrs Maryam Hamzat Saanu, the Chairman add, “This global initiative seeks not only to highlight the devastating effects of such violations but also to ensure that perpetrators are held accountable through appropriate legal and institutional channels”.
The Executive Chairman, has joined voices across the world in reaffirming a strong commitment to ending Sexual and Gender-Based Violence. In his message to the people of Kosofe, he urged survivors, witnesses, and concerned citizens to report cases of violence without fear of stigmatisation. He emphasized that silence only protects perpetrators while speaking out ensures justice and protection. Barrister Ogunlewe reiterated that the initiative is not merely an annual event but a call to action aimed at:
Raising sustainable awareness on the dangers and consequences of SGBV,strengthening safety nets and support systems for survivors, promoting a culture of zero tolerance towards violence in all its forms while reducing and ultimately preventing the reoccurrence of gender-based crimes within communities.
Ogunlewe urged the community to stand in solidarity with survivours, ensuring that no one suffers in silence, and to foster an environment where dignity, respect, and justice prevail.
