In his concerted efforts to ensure that Kosofe Local Government is in the forefront of the Lagos State advocacy on re-introduction of monthly environmental sanitation, the Executive Chairman, Kosofe Local Government Council, Hon. Barrister Moyosore Adedoyin Ogunlewe had launched a sensitization programme aimed at educating and informing residents and stakeholders in his Council on the re-launching of the cleaning exercise with a theme: “Stakeholders’ engagement\/Sensitization and Advocacy on the re-introduction of monthly environmental sanitation”.<\/p>\n
The Council’s boss was unavoidably absent as a result of another important state engagement but was ably represented by his Vice Hon. Oluwole Sosanya who delivered a keynote address on his behalf.
\nOgunlewe explained in philosophical note that the purpose of life is to make a difference that impacts the people and make notable decisions that generations yet unborn would benefit. <\/p>\n
Said he, “Today, I warmly acknowledge the presence of our
\ndistinguished stakeholders, Community leaders and esteemed residents of Kosofe to this important stakeholders\u2019 engagement on the re-introduction of the Monthly Environmental Sanitation starting this Saturday, 25th of April, 2026.
\nPermit me to use this medium to applaud the doggedness of the Executive Governor of Lagos State, His Excellency, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for his timely intervention of reviving the spirits of monthly Environmental Sanitation which placed Lagos State as one of the cleanest cities in history: and also for upholding this status through various government initiatives”.<\/p>\n
Ogunlewe said further that this administration even before now have machinery in place tackling environmental issues like consistent waste evacuation, desilting and carting of drainages and other environmental nuisances through the department of Environmental Services of the local government. <\/p>\n
“Furthermore, Kosofe Local Government commends the timely re-introduction of the monthly Environmental Sanitation now that we are approaching the rainy season considered to be the dirtiest season of the year. Today, we convened this forum to intimate our esteemed stakeholders and opinion leaders of our commitment to the directives of Mr. Governor on this initiative as we respectfully enjoin all our esteemed stakeholders to relay this message and sensitize residents of our great Local Government on the return of monthly Environmental Sanitation at the grassroot.<\/p>\n
However, you will all agree with me that the
\nthe return of environmental sanitation is a strategic step towards restoring cleanliness, preventing disease outbreaks and ensuring a healthier environment for all residents. As we are aware, a clean environment is fundamental to public health, safety and sustainable development.<\/p>\n
Today\u2019s gathering provides an opportunity for us to collectively deliberate, share ideas and strengthen collaboration between the government and the people.Your role as stakeholders are critical in ensuring the success of this initiative. Together, we must promote compliance, raise awareness and encourage behavioural change within our communities.<\/p>\n
In conclusion, let me emphasize that this administration remains committed to creating a cleaner, safer and more habitable Kosofe.With your cooperation and active participation, we can achieve this goal.<\/p>\n
Let’s come out on Saturday from 6:30am to 8.30am to clean our environments
\n as it is part of our civic responsibility” he appealed.<\/p>\n
Earlier, the Council’s Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Moses Adekoya in his welcome speech said Environmental cleaning was a shared responsibility and people’s attitude is a reflection of how their environment would be.
\nAdekoya added that the re-introduction of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise was a deliberate and strategic steps to bring back people’s environmental discipline, promote proper waste management and encourage regular cleaning of our surroundings including our drainage system.
\nSpeaking further, he explained that temporary stoppage of this exercise years ago, had overtimes contributed in no small measures to environmental challenges and unwarranted degradation as blocked drainages and flooding which may ultimately lead to spreading of avoidable and preventable diseases.
\n” I am pleased to inform you all that Lagos State government have approved the resumption of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise which commences from Saturday, 25th April, 2026 by 6.00 am to 8.00am” he explained. <\/p>\n
Other speakers at the sensitization event was the Chairman of Community Development Council, Hon. Olusegun Babatunde who appealed to all the residents and stakeholders to see the re-introduction of the cleaning exercise as a blessing in itself. Babatunde said the re-introduction of this exercise became imperative in order to address the appalling nature of our environment in dire need of total cleaning.
\nHe counseled the stakeholders to comply with the government’s directives of taking the exercise very serious as his office would not beg for any offenders caught by environmental officials flouting the law, because the exercise is an antidote against spreading of diseases. <\/p>\n
In a similar vein, the head of legislative council, Hon. Olufemi Oyesile called for total compliance to the exercise and used the occasion to warn the residents about paying lip service to the important exercise . He added that like CDC chairman, he would not be a party to appeal for clemency for any recalcitrant persons caught flouting the law, as this was not about politics, but a serious government directives aimed at preventing dirty environment which could endanger the lives of people. <\/p>\n
The one day sensitization programme attracted creme de la creme of stakeholders in Kosofe Council as council legislative and Executive members led by Secretary to Local Government Hon. Fatai Gbadebo, Chief of Staff Hon.
